Bantry house is a beautiful stately house located in Bantry, County Cork Ireland. The house was built circa. 1700 and has been open to the public for over 50 years and features one of the best… gardens in Ireland and Europe. The gulf air stream that keeps Ireland’s climate temperate is in particular evidence here on the south west coast of Ireland and the house gardens have drawn influence from the trips abroad by the second earl of Bantry and his wife Mary. The seven garden terraces, the south facing parterre surrounding a wisteria circle which in turn encompasses a magnificent fountain, are set against the stunning backdrop of bantry bay. The house being situated on one of the terraces means that you are literally encapsulated in this continental palazzo as you decend the 100 steps in the midst of rhodenderons, azaleas and other plantings. And if you get the sense that the garden and house were conceived in harmony you are correct – great care was taken to ensure that both built and planted elements were in concert. And, best of all, you can enjoy this beautiful house and gardens by staying there, almost like your very own bantry house hotel.
